Yakushigama is a product brand of Chugai Touen, a ceramics studio in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, a town with a history of more than 1,000 years of pottery. The company was named Yakushigama because there was a shrine to Yakushi Nyorai at the place where the company was founded.
Generally, it is said that the right hand of a maneki-neko (beckoning cat) invites "money," the left hand "many people," and both hands "both." However, Yakushigama's maneki-neko (beckoning cats), whether right or left, are popular with many people because they are believed to bring "health and longevity" under the protection of Yakushi Nyorai.
